W1 - Towards an Integrated Future in Geoscience Education and Outreach

Godfrey Nowlan (GSC) and Donna Schreiner (NTGO)
(1.5 days, Saturday May 26 to Sunday morning May 27)

Sponsored by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists & Geophysicists of the N.W.T. (NAPEGG), Education Culture and Employment, Canadian Geological Foundation, Canadian Geoscience Education Network and the Northwest Territories Geoscience Office

$50/person
Maximum of 35 participants

This workshop will focus on the state of geoscience education in Canada at all levels in the formal education system and in the principal programs of geoscience skills development and outreach for Canadian communities. The workshop will feature a few inspirational keynote addresses, but will mainly be a forum for discussion of future priorities in Canadian geoscience education and outreach. It is anticipated that a menu of key issues will be identified so that the education and outreach community can focus on those priorities for the coming decade. All geoscience educators and outreach practitioners are encouraged to attend this summit.

A short field trip to the Giant Mine (FT-B2 - YELLOWKNIFE GEOHERITAGE, EMPHASIZING SUBMARINE VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS, UNIQUE SEDIMENTARY DEPOSITS, AND CONTINENTAL GLACIATION) and an evening social event will be integrated into the program.  If you register for this workshop you are automatically registered for the field trip.
