July 27, 2010 - Ootes, L., Goff, S., Jackson, V.A., Gleeson, S.A., Creaser, R.A., Samson, I.M., Evensen, N., Corriveau, L., and Mumin, A.H., 2010. Timing and Thermochemical constraints on multi-element mineralization at the Nori/RA Cu-Mo-U prospect, Great Bear magmatic zone, Northwest Territories, Canada; Mineralium Deposita, DOI 10.1007/s00126-010-0291-x. This article presents radiometric age data (Re-Os molybdenite and Ar-Ar biotite) and preliminary fluid inclusion chemistry (hosted in tourmaline and quartz) from molybdenum-copper-uranium mineralization in the Paleoproterozoic Great Bear magmatic zone. This study presents the first direct ages for sulphide mineralization (non-uraninite) in the Great Bear.

NT GoData

NWT Geoscience Office Launches A New Online Reference Tool: NT GoData

April 28, 2010 - NT GoData is the NWT Geoscience Office’s (NTGO) latest online research tool offering clients a new way to explore NTGO’s vast geoscience database collection. NT GoData provides all the same database query functions available in NTGO’s popular NT GoMap online mapping application, without the robust map interface. Although NT GoMap is a popular and useful research tool, it requires a broadband Internet connection to use effectively. Some of our remote clients with low-bandwidth dialup and satellite-based service have had difficulty using the NT GoMap application. NT GoData is optimized for low-bandwidth usage, providing much faster query and reporting performance. To access NT GoData, simply click on the NT GoData button on the NTGO website at http://www.nwtgeoscience.ca. Online help is available by clicking on Help for first time NT GoData Users.

Northwest Territories Releases Unconventional Natural Gas Scoping Study

April 14, 2010 - Northwest Territories Geoscience Office (NTGO) commissioned Dr. Brad Hayes of Petrel Robertson Consulting Ltd. in Calgary to conduct a scientific scoping study that provides background and preliminary information on the prospectivity of the Northwest Territories (NWT) to host unconventional natural gas like coal bed methane, tight gas, and shale gas. Now released, the report (NWT Open File 2010-03) is available for download from www.nwtgeoscience.ca.
