NWT GEOSCIENCE OFFICE LAUNCHES A NEW ONLINE REFERENCE TOOL: NT GODATA
NT GoData is the NWT Geoscience Office’s (NTGO) latest online research tool offering clients a new way to explore NTGO’s vast geoscience database collection. NT GoData provides all the same database query functions available in NTGO’s popular NT GoMap online mapping application, without the robust map interface. Although NT GoMap is a popular and useful research tool, it requires a broadband Internet connection to use effectively. Some of our remote clients with low-bandwidth dialup and satellite-based service have had difficulty using the NT GoMap application. NT GoData is optimized for low-bandwidth usage, providing much faster query and reporting performance.
NT GoData allows users to search, view and download, free of charge, information from the following relational databases:
- Showings is a database of mineral occurrences in the NWT gathered from mineral industry reports, assessment reports, NTGO research, and other key publications;
- References combines geoscience-related publications including NTGO publications, mineral industry reports, assessment reports, petroleum industry reports, and other miscellaneous geological reports;
- G-Meta is a database of geophysical and geochemical surveys that have been submitted with assessment reports as digital data; and
- Diamonds is comprised of KIDD (Kimberlite Indicator and Diamond Database) and KIMC (Kimberlite Indicator Mineral Chemistry) information in the NWT and Nunavut. KIDD information is gathered from assessment reports containing kimberlite indicator mineral data. KIMC is an extension of the KIDD database, consisting of grain information and chemical compositions.
Within NT GoData, users can view metadata describing the characteristics of each database such as abstract, compilation techniques, usage disclaimer, and spatial format. NT GoData’s Download Wizard allows users to select from a variety of download options including projection system and file format. NT GoData is tightly integrated with Gateway, our online publications application, allowing users to query and download publications in new and flexible ways.
To access NT GoData, simply click on the NT GoData button on the NTGO website at http://www.nwtgeoscience.ca. Online help is available by clicking on Help for first time NT GoData Users.
About NTGO: The Northwest Territories Geoscience Office is a federal-territorial partnership between Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment.
