NTGO Information Update
Wednesday, June 11, 2008
The Northwest Territories Geoscience Office (NTGO), in conjunction with the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), is pleased to announce the upcoming release of NWT Open File 2008-02:
Results for the Airborne Magnetic and Gamma-ray Spectrometric Survey of the Southwestern Wopmay Orogen, Northwest Territories, parts of 86 C, 86 E and 86 F
The survey will be released simultaneously by the NTGO and GSC on Thursday June 12, 2008, at 11:00 am Mountain Standard Time. Survey maps and digital data will be available at that time through NTGO’s Gateway web portal. Simply click on the Gateway button at the NTGO website here, then click on Newest NTGO Publications to discover the Open File. A process that allows existing users to log-in and new users to set up a Gateway account will occur at the time of the download request. Gateway downloads are free of charge.
Project Description: A high-resolution aeromagnetic and Gamma-ray spectrometric survey of the southwestern Wopmay Orogen, Northwest Territories was flown in the fall of 2007, consisting of 24,000 line-kilometres of traverse and control lines, carried out by Goldak Airborne Surveys Ltd. of Saskatoon. Normal line spacing was 400 m for the traverses and 2500 m for the control lines, all flown according to a draped surface at a nominal ground clearance of 125 m.
This airborne magnetic and Gamma-ray spectrometric survey was administered by the NTGO through the Government of the Northwest Territories, and was funded by the Indian and Northern Affairs Canada’s Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED). GSC’s involvement in this project is a contribution to NTGO and the Northern Development Program of the Earth Sciences Sector, Natural Resources Canada. This survey is a joint open file publication by the NTGO and the GSC.
Survey maps will be released as Blocks A, B, C, D, E, F and Block 1. Blocks A-F each consist of 10 map sheets at a scale of 1:50,000, whereas Block 1 summarizes the survey findings in 10 map sheets at a scale 1:250,000. The following geophysical variables are plotted:
• Natural Air Absorbed Dose Rate (nGy/h)
• Potassium Concentration (K) (%)
• Equivalent Uranium Concentration (eU) (ppm)
• Equivalent Thorium Concentration (eTh) (ppm)
• eU/eTh (ppm/ppm)
• eU/K (ppm/%)
• eTh/K (ppm/%)
• Ternary Radioelement Map
• Horizontal Gradient Enhanced Residual Total Magnetic Field (nT)
• First Vertical Derivative of the Magnetic Field (nT/m)
An additional notice regarding this data release is available from the GSC website here.
