Special Session 13 - New exploration techniques for unconventional and atypical ore deposits
Jacob Hanley (ETH Zürich) and Doreen Ames (Geological Survey of Canada)
Sponsored by Mineral Deposits Division
Substantial ore reserves may be associated with atypical or complex (i.e., structurally- modified, hydrothermally-altered, re-melted) host rock environments for which traditional exploration methods cannot adequately or practically predict the location of mineralization. This session seeks oral or poster contributions that describe novel geochemical, mineralogical, geophysical, structural or computer modeling techniques that have found or may find application to mineral exploration in "problematic" geological environments. Papers describing new exploration techniques at all stages of development are encouraged (i.e., case studies of successfully-implemented techniques, or potential methods that have not yet been field-tested).
