Special Session 1 - Submarine Volcanism and Associated Mineralization: Modern vs. Ancient

The Volcanology and Igneous Petrology Division will sponsor this special session. The goal of the session is to report recent advances in the physical volcanology and geochemistry of seafloor volcanic suites and to contrast modern volcanic examples with those in the rock record (Archean through Phanerozoic). The link between known or inferred tectonic setting and the style of hydrothermal (and other) mineralization will be emphasized. The session will be aimed at the non-specialist in both the fields of petrology and ore deposits, and one goal of the session is to bridge the professional gap between these two groups. A short course of the same title will be offered prior to the meeting.
