Special Session 7 - Geoscience Skills Development for Canadian Communities
Godfrey Nowlan (GSC) and Donna Schreiner (NTGO)
1 Full day Oral and Poster
Sponsored by Canadian Geological Foundation and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists & Geophysicists of the N.W.T. (NAPEGG)
This will be a session highlighting some of the achievements of Canadian geoscience education and outreach programs, focusing on the partnerships required to make them work, the current products, and speculation on where the program is going in the future. Special emphasis should be on how the programs actually reach individual communities, both rural and urban and also on what skills are developed within the community as a result of the program. Activities to do with the International Polar Year and the International Year of Planet Earth are of particular interest. This session will be a lead-in to the workshop scheduled to follow the meeting.
