Come hear about the development of regulations under the Mineral Resources Act: current progress, and next steps.
The Government of the Northwest Territories, led by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) achieved a new Mineral Resources Act under the mandate of the 18th Legislative Assembly, through a collaborative development process with the Intergovernmental Council and Indigenous governments and organizations. The Act received assent in 2019. In order to come into force, comprehensive regulations must be developed.
The regulations will provide details on several significant and complementary frameworks that will modernize the tenure process in order to create benefits for Indigenous peoples and Northwest Territories residents, review the royalties system, and build relationships.
This session will focus on the regulations development process but also touch on implementation.
