The Sekwi Mountain mapping project, initiated by the Northwest Territories Geoscience Office, was a 3-year multidisciplinary study. This project was a collaboration among the Northwest Territories Geoscience Office (NTGO), Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia Laurentian University, Washington State University, Eagle Plains Resources Ltd., and Phelps Dodge Mining Co. The project was named after the NTS map sheet in which the initial work was conducted, but is more regional in scope.
This project aimed to provide a better understanding of the structure, stratigraphy, metallogeny, geochronology, geochemistry, and tectonic history of a segment of the Mackenzie Mountains, as well as the hydrocarbon potential along the Plateau Fault.
