Help for first time NT GoMap and NT GoData Users

What is NT GoMap?

NT GoMap

NT GoMap is a robust online mapping tool to discover, search, display, and download information from our large collection of GIS (Geographic Information System) data and geoscience-related publications. It can be used to query subsets of data as determined by the user and to visualize the results. Information available includes mineral showings, exploration reports, petroleum industry reports, digitally submitted geophysical and geochemical data, and diamond/kimberlite sample data.

Our data is collected and compiled from field observations, research, analysis, and organized into themed collections within NT GoMap. Users can perform complex queries - the combination of spatial and geoscience query options provide excellent search capabilities to meet the diverse needs of NTGO's clients. For example, users can locate and download all Showings or References that are within a geological province or are within 100 kilometres of a community. NT GoMap is tightly integrated with Gateway, allowing users to query and download publications derived from spatial or geographic constraints.

What is NT GoData?

NT GoData

NT GoData is a new online application to search and explore our vast geoscience database collection. It is similar to NT GoMap but without the mapping interface, providing good performance over slower connections and eliminating the requirement for a broadband service.

NT GoData allows you to search, view and download, free of charge, information from our Showings, References, G-Meta, and Diamond databases. NT GoData is tightly integrated with Gateway, allowing users to query and download publications derived from database queries.

Browser Requirements to run NT GoMap and NT GoData:

Introduction:

At this time, NT GoMap only supports Microsoft Internet Explorer. Support for other popular Internet browsers is currently under development. NT GoData on the other hand is supported by practically all Internet browsers. Microsoft Internet Explore and Firefox have been extensivley tested and are 100% compatible.

Both NT GoMap and NT GoData present a lot of information on each screen and therefore work best with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher. They will function fine at 800 x 600 resolution although the maps and table information will be larger and require more scrolling.

NT GoMap and NT GoData require specific browser settings to be set in order to function properly. If you are using Internet Explorer, it is strongly recommended that you add NT GoMap to your trusted sites list. By doing this, you can keep the pop-up blocker and other security-related settings enabled for standard Internet activity, but have them turned off for trusted sites.

NT GoData displays all query and results screens in new browser windows. To avoid creating many browser windows either 'Right Click' and select Open Link in a New Tab, or adjust your browser settings to open all windows in a new tab.

The following instructions step you through configuring the required browser settings. They are specific to Internet Explorer 7 but are also applicable to previous and newer versions.

Common pop-up blockers:

Besides Internet Explorer's integrated pop-up blocker, there may be other third-party pop-up blockers installed on your system that will prevent NT GoMap from functioning normally. Listed below are some of the more popular pop-up blockers and instructions on how to disable them in order to view NT GoMap. In general, most pop-up blockers will install themselves either within the browser toolbar, or within the Windows system tray (located in the bottom right corner of your screen).

Pop-up blocking was first integrated into Internet Explorer 6 with the release of Microsoft’s Service Pack 2 and is now a standard feature of Internet Explorer 7. By default pop-up blocking is enabled in IE6 SP2 and IE7. Follow the instructions in the IE pop-up blocker section below to disable IE's integrated pop-up blocker.
