Accessing the database

Northwest Territories Permafrost Database web application

This link opens a web viewer for exploring geotechnical borehole locations and ground temperature monitoring sites. Instructions for filtering and selecting sites spatially or by site characteristics, and for downloading data, can be found in the application.

Data structure

Data providers can use the Ground Temperature and Geotechnical data templates to prepare data.  Data users can also use the templates for more detailed information on data structure and field descriptions. (Links to the templates will follow.)

 

Unpublished geotechnical data

Due to the large amount and great diversity in legacy data, formatting and loading it into the database will take time. To provide access to valuable permafrost information before it is added to the database, the NTGS has made a list of geotechnical investigations that can be shared upon request. Geotechnical reports table

 

Data ownership

Ownership of the data remains with the organization that generated and provided the data. Each dataset is assigned a permanent digital object identifier (DOI) to link the data to its source. Data users are instructed to cite the original source and can reach out to the organization for additional inquiries.

Each download package includes a readme file and a full list of publications associated with the downloaded records. Please follow the instructions provided and refer to the appropriate data source(s) and recommended citation(s).
