Navigating the NWT COVID-19 Public Health Orders: A Guide for Exploration Companies
Changes to 2020-21 Mining Incentive Program
About the Program
The Northwest Territories (NWT) Mining Incentive Program (MIP) provides funding to prospectors and exploration companies who propose new exploration projects or are already carrying out NWT mineral exploration work. The MIP is intended to stimulate and sustain mineral exploration activities throughout the NWT and reduce the risk associated with grassroots mineral exploration - exploration that is vital to a healthy, sustained, and productive mining industry. The MIP is an initiative of the Northwest Territories Mineral Development Strategy (MDS) and was developed in response to the findings of the Stakeholders Engagement Panel. The MIP is modelled after successful incentive programs offered by other Canadian jurisdictions.
Funding is available under the Prospector Mining Incentive Program and the Corporate Mining Incentive Program. The 2021-2022 application deadline for both programs is April 30, 2021. Eligible expenses are those incurred during the period April 1st, 2021 to March 31st, 2022.
Prospector Mining Incentive Program
Prospectors licenced to operate in the NWT can apply for up to $25,000 in funding. The funding limit was increased from $15,000. For updated program information, please see the Prospector MIP Guide and MIP COVID UPDATE - May 12, 2020.
